Our 6 for 60 Gala is the largest celebration held on our line for many years. It brings together a superb range of attractions to commemorate 60 years since the closure of the Carmarthen to Aberystwyth line as well as marking Rail 200, the 200th anniversary of the modern rail system’s birth.

This event is managed & sponsored by Fox & Edwards Events.

The six highlights of this year’s event include;

a train on a track with smoke coming out of it

– Visiting locomotive No. 7812 Erlestoke Manor, appearing courtesy of Erlestoke Manor Fund and the Severn Valley Railway. Great Western Railway Manor class locomotives like this were in daily use on the line for several decades and the appearance of this engine comes 37 years since the last one was used.

– Visiting locomotive No. 5521 / L150, appearing courtesy of Bill Parker & Epping Ongar Railway. This typical Great Western locomotive is appearing for the first time on our line – having toured the London Underground, the wider UK and even Europe in the last 20 years.

– The last appearance of No. 6430 at an enthusiast event prior to withdrawal from service in May.

– The first appearance of three Great Western Railway locomotives together in steam on our line since 1965.

– Intensive timetable of steam services including evening trips, with departures frequently from Abergwili Junction.

– Rare evening journeys with bar open on Saturday 15th.

Previously announced relaunch of the locomotive Haulwen is now not expected to take place at this event.

Additionally, there will be miniature steam traction engines and other attractions. On Friday 14th, Swindon-built diesel locomotive D2178, a class 03, is also in service.

We’re pleased to be welcoming Daleio’s Pick & Mix and Talley Wood Fired Pizza Co as tasty additions to the event on Saturday & Sunday.

All tickets sold are rover tickets, which are valid on all passenger trains during the event. On some services, we are expecting trains to be exceptionally busy and cannot guarantee seating.

We recommend booking rover tickets (valid for all trains on that day) in advance as some dates may become sold out, after which it may not be possible to accommodate walk-up visitors. Book ahead!
